Ryan Orner

Welcome new head coach Ryan Orner to the Xavier family. Orner will be tasked with heading both the cross country and track and field teams.

Ryan Orner is entering his first season as the head coach of the Xavier men's and women's cross country and track and field teams.

He comes to Xavier after spending the spring of 2012 at University of Cincinnati as an assistant coach of the Bearcats' men's and women's track and field teams. His major responsibility was with the development of middle through long distance runners.

Prior to coming to Cincinnati, Orner spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University for the Blue Jays' men's and women's cross country and track and field teams. He coached 19 individual NCAA DIII qualifiers and 14 NCAA DIII All-Americans during his tenure at JHU. In 2011, Orner was named Mideast NCAA Assistant Coach of the Year for indoor track by the U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

While at Johns Hopkins, Orner also coached the women's cross country team to five consecutive appearances at the NCAA Division III National Championship including three top 10 finishes. In his final season at JHU, the men's cross country team qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship for the first time in school history. Orner led the Blue Jays to 11 team Centennial Conference championships combined across cross country and track and field.

Orner began his coaching career in 2006 at Oldfields School, a private boarding school in Baltimore County, Maryland. As the head coach, Orner was able to establish and develop the first cross country program at Oldfields.

Orner graduated from Towson University in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. While at Towson, he competed for both the cross country and track and field teams. As a captain of the Tigers' cross country team in 1999, Orner led the squad to a Maryland State Championship and the most successful season in team history. Orner also qualified for four ECAC championships and was a finalist at the America East Conference Championships in several events. He also received his master's degree in exercise science from McDaniel College.
