Musketeers Split Meet at Miami
OXFORD, Ohio - Xavier used eight first place finishes and 14 second place finishes to split their match with host Miami and IUPUI on Saturday afternoon. On the men's side XU lost to Miami, 166-117, but reversed the table to defeat IUPUI, 172-120. The women's team also fell to Miami, 179-112, and overpowered IUPUI to win, 188-82.
Six individuals and two relay teams grabbed top honors in the meet for the Musketeers, while 11 individuals and three relay teams took second place.
Senior Matt Young and freshman Nico Lilly both grabbed top honors in two events. Young took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.71 and the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.86. Lilly notched top finishes in the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 4:48.72 and 9:47.68, which just missed his school record mark by .68 of a second. Kyle Hawley finished on the heels of Young to take second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.21, while also grabbing second in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.92.
The women's team was paced by sophomores Dana Hunter and Jill Cooke who each took first and second in their respective events. Hunter earned first place in the 100 free (53.87) and second in the 1000 free (10:43.80), while classmate Cooke notched a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.73) and second in the 200 free(1:57.92). Two other Musketeers nabbed top spots in the meet with senior Janet Heil taking first in the 200 butterfly (2:11.54) and sophomore Krystel Kooyman nabbing first in the 200 breatstroke (2:25.44).
The Musketeers will be back in the water on December 3 as they travel to Akron University to compete in the three-day Zippy Invite.
