CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams will test their midseason form this coming weekend at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio. The three-day meet will feature women's teams from Cleveland State, Michigan State, Youngstown State, St. Francis (Pa.) and Duquesne, while the men will be joined by Cleveland State, Michigan State and Ohio State.
This marks the first competition in nearly two weeks for the Musketeers as Xavier held its annual Alumni meet last weekend at the O'Connor Sports Center. XU was last in the water competitively at the Spire Institute Quad meet. The men swam away with a 1-1 record and the women went 1-3 in the meet.
The women are looking to build upon strong relay races and individual performances by Carolyn Stewart, Jacquelyn Misanik, Anne Frigo and Mackenna Rife. Maddie Day and Courtney Shields teamed with Stewart and Frigo to win the 200 medley relay at the Spire Institute Quad.
Xavier's men's team has been particularly strong in the relays as well, taking home first place in the 200 and 400 free relays at the Spire Institute Quad. Sam Conchuratt and Chad Thompson swam to first-place finishes in the 100 fly and 200 IM, respectively.
Swimming will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with preliminaries. Event finals will be held each afternoon.
