Women's Swimming Breezes Past Youngstown State
CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's swimming team defeated Youngstown State 86-27 on Saturday afternoon at the O'Connor Sports Center Pool.
The Musketeers got off to a great start in the first event as the 200 Medley Relay finished first as they set a new pool record with a time of 1:53.70. The relay team was made up of Molly Moeller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), Danielle Miller (Middletown, Ohio/Lakota East), Sarah Brown (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), and Angie Hinrichs (Cincinnati/McAuley).
Hinrichs also excelled in her individual events with first place finishes in the 100 Breaststroke (1:12.56) and the 500 Freestyle (5:16.62).
Sophomore Kristy Ulrich (Hillsborough, N.C./East Chapel Hill) also had a great day for the Musketeers as she finished first in the 1000 Freestyle (11:00.71), first in the 200 Backstroke (2:15.63), and second in the 100 Butterfly (1:03.20).
Janet Heil (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) continued the success for Xavier by taking first in the 100 Backstroke (1:05.18) and 200 Breaststroke (2:38.40).
Along with the outstanding performances in the relay events, freshman Sarah Brown took first in the 200 Fly (2:16.32) and the 200 IM (2:19.46).
Xavier finished off the afternoon in the same fashion as they started as the 400 Freestyle Relay also set a pool record with a time 3:42.80. Hinrichs led off the relay with a pool record time of 54.08. Heather Greidanus (Pewaukee, Wisc./Arrowhead), Brown, and Moeller finished up on the relay en route to setting the new pool record.
The Musketeers return to action next Saturday as the men and women both travel to Muncie, Ind. for double dual meet action versus Ball State and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
