CINCINNATI - The Xavier swimming teams will host Bellarmine on Friday night in a 5 p.m. meet at the O'Connor Sports Center. The Musketeers have put up strong performances in all four of their meets this season.
Women's swimmer Mackenna Rife has started strong and picked up this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award. Rife has posted the second best times in the conference in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events.
Several other Musketeers hold top-five times in the A-10 as well. Junior Anne Frigo has posted the third-fastest time in the 100 free, while Carolyn Stewart has the third-fastest times in both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke. Jacquelyn Misanik is currently fourth in the 100 back and fifth in both the 50 and 200 back.
The men's team is off to a 2-2 start on the season, picking up a great win against crosstown-rival Cincinnati last Friday before falling to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. Chad Thompson had a phenomenal weekend, winning five events and finishing second in two other races.
Multiple Musketeers have registered top-five times in the conference thus far, including freshman Luke Johanns (50 free, 100 free), Sam Conchuratt (100 free, 100 butterfly, 200 IM), Kiernan McGeehan (1000 free), Nick Foster (1000 free), David Maxwell (50 backstroke, 100 back), Thompson (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM), Rick Stewart (100 breaststroke, 200 breast) and David Gordon (400 IM).
While the Musketeers look to continue improving in the early weeks of the season, the meet is extremely important for the Knights. This is Bellarmine's first season with a team and will be the first meet in program history.
