CINCINNATI - Xavier swimmer Mackenna Rife was named the A-10 Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. She earned the award after just the second week of competition this season.

Rife took first place in four events meets against Southwest Ohio-rivals Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio) last weekend. Rife claimed the top spot in both the 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle against the Bearcats.

Rife, a native of Olathe, Kan., followed with a third-place finish in the 1000 free against Miami (Ohio), but came back to take first place in the 500 free and 400 individual medley. The two times Rife posted in the 1000 free (10:31.84 and 10.32.35) rank the freshman as the third-fastest swimmer in the event in program history.

The freshman's top times in both the 500 free (5:08.16) and 1000 free (10:31.84) are currently the second fastest times in the A-10 this season.

This marks the first time since Kari Peglar won the award twice in the 2007-08 season that a Musketeer has been named A-10 Rookie of the Week. Peglar went on to be named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer that season.
