XU Swimmers Split in Meet at Eastern Illinois
Musketeer Women Swim Past the Panthers


Charleston, Ill. - The Xavier Swimming Teams split in the Saturday afternoon meet at Eastern Illinois. The Xavier women defeated Eastern Illinois by a score of 132-105 while the men were defeated by a score of 128.5-75.5.

The women were led by junior Angie Hinrichs (Cincinnati/McAuley) and sophomore Janet Heil (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame Academy).

Hinrichs took first in three events: 200 Freestyle (1:58.67), 100 Freestyle (54.49), and 200 Freestyle Relay (1:43.42).

Heil also finished first in three events: 100 Butterfly (1:02.36), 200 IM (2:16.26), and 500 Freestyle (5:19.96).

Junior Elizabeth Vernon (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) placed first in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:02.00. Sarah Blush (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) took first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.77) and was also on the first-place Medley Relay (156.69). Junior Molly Moeller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished first in the 100 Backstroke (1:01.77) and was also part of the winning Medley Relay.

The women’s team took first in two relay events: Medley Relay (156.69) and the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:43.42). The Medley Relay was comprised of Moeller, Blush, Sarah Brown (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), and Hailey Harn (Faribault, Minn./Faribault). The Freestyle Relay squad was made up of Hinrichs, Heather Greidanus (Pewaukee, Wisc./Arrowhead), Natalie Lindquist (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South), and Brown.

The men’s team was led by sophomore Matt Young (Mt. Washington, Ky./St. Xavier) and freshman Kyle Hawley (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North). Young finished first in the 200 IM (2:00.24 ) and the 100 Backstroke (1:02.64). Hawley took first in the 200 Freestyle (1:49.02).

The women’s team will return to action next Saturday at Bowling Green while the men will take a break until the next scheduled meet on November 16th at Ball State.
