CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's and women's swimming teams will head to Fishers, Ind., for the Butler Fall Invite, the opening meet of the 2013-14 season for the Musketeers.
After joining the BIG EAST Conference on July 1, Xavier will look to leave its mark in their inaugural season in the new conference. The men's squad is coming off of a third-place showing in the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, while the women look to improve on their tenth-place finish.
Seniors John Kinney and Chad Thompson, juniors Will Oswald, Eric Dirvin and Armando Moss and sophomores Luke Johanns and Nick Foster will lead the men's squad this season. Johanns shattered an 18-year old school record in the 50 free in the A-10 Championships to close last season, while Kinney, Thompson, Oswald and Dirvin swam on medal-winning relay teams for the Musketeers. Despite missing last season due to injury, Moss represented his native Bahamas in the World University Games in Kazan, Russia and will be a key component of the men's team.
The women will be led by seniors Lynn Brotherton, Natalie Hyde, Courtney Cox and Olivia Wilkes, juniors Carolyn Stewart and Jacquelyn Misanik and sophomore Mackenna Rife. Stewart and junior Maddie Day were members of the bronze medal winning women's 200 medley relay team at the A-10 Championships. Rife was named the A-10 Women's Rookie of the Week in late October last season and went on to post times in the distance events that are already in the top two all-time at Xavier.
The Butler Fall Invite will be held at Fishers High School in Fishers, Ind., with a scheduled start time of noon.
