March 28, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Michael Zennedjian and Courtney Shields have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the conference office Wednesday, Mar. 28. This is the first academic nod for both swimmers.
Zennedjian, a marketing major, was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Most Outstanding Performer for the second consecutive year in February at the conference championships. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native won three individual and two relay gold medals this year in Buffalo, N.Y., and he set a meet, conference and school record in the 200 IM. For his career, Zennedjian has 11 individual and five relay medals from the A-10 Championships.
Shields, a finance major, swam the butterfly leg on the bronze-medal winning 200 medley relay team at this year's A-10 Championships. Her split was 24.15 and the team set a school record with a time of 1:43.06.
Xavier swimming continues to excel in the pool and the classroom. This year the women's squad had a team GPA of 3.34, tied with Yale for 49th in the nation, while the men had a 3.39 team GPA and were tied for sixth in the country with Boston College. Both squads boasted the best team GPA in the Atlantic 10.
