Shields, Conchuratt Earn A-10 Academic All-Conference Nods
March 8, 2013
CINCINNATI - Xavier swimmers Courtney Shields and Sam Conchuratt were both named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Academic All-Conference teams on Thursday. Shields and Conchuratt garnered the accolades due to both their performance in the pool and in the classroom. Shields, a native of Valencia, Pa., was named to the academic all-conference team for the second-straight season and holds a cumulative 3.87 GPA as an accounting major. The senior swimmer was a member of two Xavier relays that fared well at the A-10 Championships, placing third in the women's 200 medley relay and breaking Xavier's team record with a fifth-place showing in the 200 free relay. Shields is a major reason the women's team earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors. After earning silver medals and second team all-conference accolades in six different events at the A-10 Championships, Conchuratt picked up an academic all-conference nod. During the course of the season, the Tualatin, Ore., native picked up two A-10 Performer of the Week awards. Conchuratt carries a 3.50 GPA in international studies and was integral in helping the men's team to CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors with the third-highest team GPA in the country. The men's and women's teams recently wrapped up the Atlantic 10 Championships. XU placed third for the second-consecutive year and fourth time overall on the men's side. The women's team finished 10th in the championships. Men's Academic All-Conference Team
