A BIG Accomplishment For Xavier Men's Swimming

CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's swimming team became the first team at the university to win a BIG EAST Championship since the school joined the league in July of 2013. Xavier swimming head coach and BIG EAST Men's Swimming Coach of the Year Brent MacDonald and Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer Chad Thompson discussed the accomplishment with GoXavier.com.

Thompson, 2014 Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer, was awarded a gold medal in six different competition:

200 Yard Backstroke
200 Yard IM
400 Yard IM
200 Yard Freestyle Relay(With teammates Luke Johanns, Rodrigo Suriano and Armando Moss)
400 Yard Freestyle Relay(With teammates Luke Johanns, Rodrigo Suriano and Armando Moss)
800 Yard Freestyle Relay(With teammates Luke Johanns, Eric Dirvin and Will Oswald)

Other gold medal winners include Luke Johanns (five gold medals), Nick Foster (two), Armando Moss (two), Will Oswald (two), Rodrigo Suriano (two), Eric Dirvin (one) and Arthur Smith (one).

 

 

The Championship was not only the first BIG EAST crown for any sport at XU, but it was also the first ever league title for the men's or women's swimming programs.
