CINCINNATI- The Xavier University swim teams will embark on a trip to Geneva, Ohio for the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships held Feb. 20-23 at the Spire Institute. The Musketeers participated in a meet at the Spire Institute earlier this season, featuring fellow A-10 members La Salle, St. Bonaventure, Butler and Duquesne.
Xavier looks to improve upon the fast times submitted during the final few meets of the regular season. Following the final regular-season meet against Wright State, Chad Thompson and Luke Johannsearned performer and rookie of the week accolades in the Atlantic 10.
Both the men's and women's teams have been particularly fast in the relay events this season and will compete for medals.
Last season, the men's team picked up eight medals - four gold and four bronze - en route to a third-place finish in the championships. Michael Zennedjian, the 2011 and 2012 A-10 Most Outstanding Performer, led the way with three individual gold and a relay gold. Sam Conchurattgrabbed two individual bronze medals.
The women's team brought home three medals, all bronze, from an eighth-place showing last season. Carolyn Stewartfinished third in both the 100 and 200 back, while also swimming the backstroke leg of the bronze-medal winning 200 medley relay squad.
Competition in the A-10 Championships will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. Preliminary heats will be contested each morning, with finals being held every evening.
