CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams will compete in the BIG EAST Championships in Sewell, N.J., taking place Wednesday, Feb. 19 until Saturday, Feb. 22. The four day event pins XU against BIG EAST competition for the first time since joining the new conference on July 1, 2013.

This will be the first time the men's team entered the pool for competition since they swam against Wright State on Jan. 31. Despite the loss, Luke Johanns claimed two victories, one individual and one team. Johanns won the 50 Free (21.84) and the 200 free relay with teammates Rodrigo Suriano, Knox Hitt and Armando Moss (1:22.58).

Freshman Nick Strader (9:45.65) and sophomore Nick Foster (9:49.19) finished 1-2 in the 1000 free and junior Eric Dirvin earned the only other Musketeer victory by winning the 200 free (1:45.78).

The XU women swam Friday, Feb. 7 against Ohio at the O'Conner Sports Complex on Xavier's campus. Heidi Turner provided Xavier with its lone victory of the night, winning the 150 fly (1:36.51), followed by Lynn Brotherton in second (1:38.41).

Xavier's team of Carolyn Stewart, Maddie Day, Ashley Whiteley and Claire Brolsma swam well in the 200 medley, claiming second with a time of 1:51.40.

Molly Kroeger (50 and 400 free), Hannah Martin (150 breaststroke) and Taylor Jach (800 free) recorded strong second-place performances to close out the final regular season meet for the Musketeers.

The BIG EAST Championships are set to start at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the men's and women's 800 freestyle relays. Action on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin with prelims in the morning and concludes with finals in the evening. Visit BIG EAST Championship Central for more information.
