CINCINNATI - Junior Chad Thompson and freshman Luke Johanns each earned Atlantic 10 swimming accolades after helping break pool records at the O'Connor Sports Center in Xavier's meet with Wright State last Saturday.
Thompson was named the A-10 Men's Swimming and Diving Co-Performer of the Week with Fordham's Shintaro Noguchi. A native of Dekalb, Ill., Thompson won both the 400 individual medley (4:09.29) and the 100 back (52.52). He then teamed with Johanns and seniors David Maxwell and Pablo Morejon to break the pool record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:23.85.
Johanns garnered recognition as the A-10 Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week. He opened Saturday with a pool record in the 400 medley relay, where he swam anchor to close out the race and set a new top time of 3:26.35 in the event. Johanns added a victory in the 50 free (21.26) before the record setting 200 free relay, completing an undefeated day in the pool.
Xavier has had a strong season in the pool and the Musketeers have now earned five weekly accolades this season. Sam Conchuratt was named men's performer of the week on two separate occasions and Mackenna Rife earned women's rookie of the week honors.
