CINCINNATI - The Xavier swimming team will participate in the Butler Invitational this Sunday at noon. XU will be joined by host-school Butler, Ball State, Illinois State, IUPUI and Green Bay. Butler will be hosting the event at Fishers High School in Fishers, Ind., a suburb of Indianapolis.
Sophomore Carolyn Stewart has been a steady presence for XU this season. Stewart earned a trip to the AT&T Winter Nationals in December, where she swam in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events.
Anne Frigo leads XU's sprinters and swims on both the 400 free relay and 400 medley relay teams. Freshman Mackenna Rife is one of the top distance swimmers in the Atlantic 10, with top 10 times in the conference in the 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free. Senior Courtney Shields holds the top time in the Atlantic 10 in the 50 butterfly this season.
The men's team is paced by two-time Atlantic 10 Men's Performer of the Week senior Sam Conchuratt, who joined Stewart at the AT&T Winter Nationals. Fellow men's swimmers Chad Thompson, a junior, and Knox Hitt, a freshman, also swam in the prestigious Winter Nationals.
The Musketeers are gearing up for the Atlantic 10 Championships set to be held Feb. 20-23 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
