Chad Thompson had a strong showing among the nation's elite swimmers at the AT&T Winter Nationals.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The five members of Xavier's men's and women's swimming teams that qualified for the AT&T Winter Nationals represented the program quite well throughout the three-day event. Senior Chad Thompson led the way in the individual events and then paced three relay teams that all finished in the top 15.
Thompson competed in two individual events, the 200 back and 200 IM. He clocked a time of 1:52.42 in the IM, which was good for a 39th-place showing. He followed with a time of 1:51.74 in the 200 back, placing 45th.
A year after finishing 64th in the 100 back, Carolyn Stewart improved nine spots to finish 55th this season. The junior posted a time of 56.35 in the event.
In the first national event of his collegiate career, sophomore Luke Johanns notched a time of 20.73 in the 50 free to finish 51st.
Thompson and Johanns teamed with Armando Moss and Rodrigo Suriano to swim in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays. The four men placed 12th overall with a time of 1:21.75 in the 200. Then, they grabbed a 10th-place finish in the 800 free relay. Xavier closed the event in the 400 free relay, finishing 15th with a time of 3:04.51.
The swim team has a lengthy layoff for finals and the holiday season, with the next meet scheduled for Jan. 10 against IUPUI.
