Swimming Teams Complete Day Two of Zippy Invitational

AKRON, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's swim teams held on to their positions in the ranks of the 2007 Zippy Invitational hosted by the University of Akron. Even though the Musketeers do not compete in diving events, both XU teams have scored enough points to remain at the top of the group, with the men in second and the women in fourth. For the men's team, freshman John Buckley touched first in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.42, which is only .09 seconds off the XU all-time record. Junior Matt Marcus took third place in the same event (58.25) and sophomore Mark Febus placed seventh (59.63). The foursome of senior Matt Krouse, juniors Patrick McGrath and Jake Burke along with freshman Nathan Green took first place in the 800 Free Relay (6.56.40). Teammates senior Nico Lilly, r-sophomore Sam Gray, sophomore Mickey Hefertepe and freshman Terence Mahon placed fifth (7:04.92) in the same event. In the 200 Medley Relay, Krouse, Marcus and Buckley teamed up with freshman John Roof for a second place finish with a time of 1:34.21. For the women's team, freshman Kari Peglar set yet another school record with her second-place performance inthe 200 Free. Her time of 1:52.95 is .33 faster than the previous record set by Angie Hinrichs in 2002. In the same event, sophomore Alison Johnson placed 10th (1:56.94).
Sophomore Elaina Suba touched fifth in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.80, which was good for a Xavier program-best time, and sophomore Martha Cutter-Wilson placed sixth in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:07.18. Johnson, Suba and Peglar teamed up with junior Mary Catherine Mahon for a fifth place finish in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 7:47.40.
