XU Men's And Women's Swimming Sits In Third At Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Following the first day of swimming in the Magnus Cup, both the Xavier men's and women's swimming teams are sitting in third place. The women's total of 371.5 points is less than 17 behind host school Cleveland State, while the men posted a total of 302.

Maddie Day started the Musketeers with a meet-record performance in the 50 breast. Day won by six-hundredths of a second, recording a time of 29.48. Haley Dresner and Hanna Martin placed fifth and 10th in the A-Final with Day.

Mackenna Rife (4:59.45) gave XU a second-place finish in the 500 free. Molly Kroeger, Heidi Turner and Taylor Jach added to the point total, finishing fourth, sixth and ninth, respectively, in the race.

BIG EAST Male Swimmer of the Week Nick Strader finished fourth in the men's 500. Carter Clark (26.51) added a third-place effort in the men's 50 breast. Clark was followed by Erik Biernat in seventh and Eric Futscher in 10th.

Swimming will resume with preliminaries on Saturday morning at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. Event finals will be contested later in the evening.
