XU Swimming Finishes Strong At Magnus Cup Invitational

CLEVELAND - The Xavier University women's swim team finished in third and the men's team finished in second in the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State. In the six-team women's field, Xavier outswam Saint Francis, Duquesne and Youngstown State. The men only trailed Cleveland State, while besting both Michigan State and Ohio State.

In the women's 50 butterfly, Courtney Shields finished second with a time of 25.64. Sam Conchuratt and Knox Hitt touched in fifth and sixth in the men's 50 butterfly.

Mackenna Rife had a strong showing in the 1650 free, touching second in 17:10.82. Nick Foster and Kiernan McGeehan finished second and fourth, respectively, in the long-distance event. Foster turned in a time of 16:10.17 and McGeehan finished in 16:17.13.

Jacquelyn Misanik picked up a fourth-place in the 200 back, while David Maxwell and Chad Thompson touched third and fourth, respectively, on the men's side.

In the women's 200 breaststroke, Natalie Hyde picked up a second-place finish in 2:24.20. Xavier took third and fourth in the men's 200 breaststroke with performances by Michael Gordon and Rick Stewart.

Carolyn Stewart set a Magnus Cup Invitational record with a time of 26.80 in the 50 backstroke. Misanik added a fifth-place result in the event. Maxwell, Joe O'Hara, Luke Johanns and John Kinney claimed third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the men's 50 backstroke.

Landon Graham added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly, while Knox Hitt chipped in a fourth-place time in the event.

Molly Kroeger, Claire Brolsma, Randi Windemuller and Anne Frigo teamed to finish third in the women's 400 free relay and, on the men's side, Johanns, Pablo Morejon, Maxwell and Conchuratt finished second.
