Western Kentucky Gets Past Men's and Women's Swimming

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Xavier men's and women's swim teams fell to Western Kentucky Saturday evening at WKU's Raymond B. Preston Center. The men lost by a margin of 166-110 while the women were defeated, 165-104.

"We used this meet to help prepare ourselves for the upcoming invitationals, House of Champions(IUPUI) and the Akron Invitational," commented head coach Brent MacDonald. "We accomplished just that having good swims all around."

The XU men (2-3) had several good outings for the meet as junior Nathan Green touched second in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:43.48 followed by freshman Dan Schneider in third (1:47.45). Junior Terence Mahon placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.73) and turned in the third fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (48.24) as well.

Freshman Rick Stewart won silver in the 200-yard breastroke (2:14.11) while Green also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.74). Sophomore Michael Zennedjian swam the third fastest time in the 200-yard IM (1:55.99) and the foursome of senior Mickey Hafertepe, freshman Pablo Morejon, Mahon and Green touched second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.32).

For the XU women (3-4), junior Kari Peglar placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:37.83 and followed that with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.77). Junior Kerry Wright touched third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.78) and classmate Bethanie Griffin also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.76).


 

 

Senior Martha Cutter-Wilson took silver in the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.02) while Peglar claimed her third silver of the day with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.29). Griffin touched third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.64).

The Musketeers return to action next weekend as the head to Indianapolis to participate in the IUPUI House of Champions Invitational. The meet is scheduled for two days, Nov. 13-14 at the IU Natatorium.
