GENEVA, Ohio - The Xavier University men's and women's swim teams faced A-10 competition at the Spire Institute in Northern Ohio on Saturday. The women's squad posted a 1-3 mark in the meet, while the men's team went 1-1.
The women's 200 medley relay team, consisting of Carolyn Stewart, Maddie Day, Courtney Shields and Anne Frigo, claimed first place with a time of 1:49.32. Stewart put forth a second-place showing in the 100 back, out-touching teammate Jacquelyn Misanik by just two-hundredths of a second. Misanik completed her day by with a second-place time in the 200 back, finishing in 2:07.92.
In addition to her win in the 200 medley relay, Frigo added third-place finishes in both the 50 and 100 free. Mackenna Rife had another strong showing for the Musketeers, finishing second in both the 1,650 free (17:41.44) and 500 free (5:06.25).
Xavier dominated the men's 200 and 400 free relays. Teammates Eric Dirvin, Chad Thompson, Pablo Morejon and Luke Johanns won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:25.50 and Sam Conchuratt, David Maxwell, Morejon and Johanns posted a top time of 3:07.54 in the 400 free relay.
Conchuratt and Thompson added first-place finishes in the 100 fly and 200 IM, respectively. Thompson also finished third in the 200 back. Maxwell, Joe O'Hara and Thompson went second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 back. With his third top-two finish of the afternoon, Conchuratt posted a time of 1:55.60 in the 200 fly by finishing second.
The Musketeers will play host to their alumni next Saturday in the annual alumni meet. XU will be back in the pool competitively in two weeks when it travels to Cleveland, Ohio for the Cleveland State Invitational held from Nov. 16-18.
