CINCINNATI - Xavier women's swimming team dropped a dual meet with Bowling Green at O'Connor Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. Carolyn Stewart led the way for Xavier, picking up a pair of victories.
"It was great to get them back into competition after a week off last week," said head coach Brent MacDonald. " We had the opportunity to put into place things that we had been working on and, for the most part, we did a great job of it. To see some of our girls get up and swim with a great BGSU squad was pleasing."
Mackenna Rife got things started for Xavier with a victory in the 1000 free. She posted a time of 10:49.01. Emily Wagner touched in second place with a time of 10:51.72, giving XU the top two finishes in the event. Rife (5:16.77) later added a second-place finish in the 500 free.
The 100 back was also dominated by the Musketeers with Stewart and Jacquelyn Misanik finishing one-two, respectively. Stewart led with a time of 59.24 and Misanik was close behind at 1:00.27.
Sarah Stone (2:14.26) put pressure on Bowling Green in the 200 fly, but was out-touched and finished second by just over a tenth of a second. In the very next race, Maddie Day (24.96) won the 50 free.
Stewart showed her strength in the backstroke events, winning the 200 back by over two seconds with a time of 2:08.91.
Xavier will be back in the pool on Friday, Nov. 8 with a dual meet against Tiffin at 5:30 p.m. Both the men's and women's squads will participate.
