CINCINNATI - Xavier hosted Bellarmine on Friday evening in the Knight's first-ever meet as an NCAA program and came away with wins on both the men's and women's side. The men's team defeated Bellarmine, 77-30, and the women's team won, 79-32.
"It was great to get a chance to swim Bellarmine University in the program's first ever NCAA swim meet," said head coach Brent MacDonald. "They came in with a lot of team spirit and raced hard. Coach Bruccato is a great coach who has established a base to build on quickly."
"I was pleased to see some of our swimmers step up and put down some surprising times in a few events," continued MacDonald. "It certainly has us looking at new people to fill some visible voids on our team."
Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Mackenna Rife won both the 200 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. Other Musketeers who took the top time individual events include, Carolyn Stewart (100 back and 100 butterfly), Natalie Hyde (100 and 200 breaststroke), Courtney Cox (200 butterfly), Courtney Shields (50 free), Haley Dresner (100 free), Molly Kroeger (500 free) and Jacquelyn Misanik (200 IM). The women also won the 200 yard medley and 400 yard freestyle relays.
