Swim Teams Suffer Setback at Miami (Ohio)

OXFORD, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams fell at intrastate rival Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon at MU's Nixon Aquatic Center. The men suffered a 148-122 loss while the women were setback 180-80 in the coed dual meet. The XU men's 400 Medley relay team swam well for the Musketeers, touching first (3:30.41) almost six seconds ahead of a Miami squad. Sophomore Terence Mahon led off that 400 Medley relay team while senior Matt Marcus, sophomore John Roof and sophomore Nathan Green swam the other three legs. Mahon placed first in the 100 Back event as well, turning in a time of 54.03. Also for the men, Roof came in first in the 200 Fly race (1:57.39) while Green touched first in the 100 Free (47.69). Freshman Michael Zennedjian beat out his competition in the 400 IM with his time of 4:15.22. On the women's side, sophomore Kari Peglar picked up the women's only first place finish by turning in a time of 2:10.23 in the 200 Back event. Junior Elaina Suba placed second (1:00.77) and senior Mary Catherine Mahon touched third (1:02.39) in the 100 Back while senior Alissa Schriner took second (2:12.80) in the 200 Fly. Also for the women, junior Martha Cutter-Wilson came in second in the 200 Breast with her time of 2:27.93.
The Musketeers return to the road Saturday, November 8 when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on Eastern Michigan and Akron. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. |
