CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's swimming team picked up its second-straight win and the women's team raced well in Friday night's meet at crosstown-rival Cincinnati.
"The men had a great win and the women raced extremely well," said head coach Brent MacDonald. "I was pleased to see a lot of great team spirit all the way through the last relay. This gives us a lot of confidence going into another big race tomorrow with Miami."
Sam Conchuratt led the men's team with three wins in individual events tonight, taking home first place in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Rick Stewart picked up wins in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. Conchuratt and Stewart team with David Maxwell and Luke Johanns to take first place in the 400 medley relay.
Johanns won the 100 free, posting a time of 46.80, and Eric Dirvin took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.63. Chad Thompson rounded out the individual-event winners for Xavier, claiming first in the 200 back. The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Maxwell, Johanns, Thompson and Pablo Morejon won by nearly three seconds.
Freshman Mackenna Rife grabbed a pair of victories in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events. Rife bested her previous high in the 1,000 free by nearly five seconds. The other Musketeer to win an event on the women's side was Carolyn Stewart, who won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.17.
The Xavier Musketeers will be back in the pool tomorrow at 2 p.m. when the two teams travel to Oxford, Ohio for a meet with the Miami RedHawks.
