WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - In its second match in as many days, Xavier swimming stepped up early and often with both the men's and women's squads picking up victories at the University of the Cumberlands.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Rodrigo Suriano, Eric Futscher, Erik Biernat and Armando Moss got the winning started with a time of 1:37.41. Futscher later won the 1000 free, touching the wall in 10:16.02.
Xavier took first and second in the 200 free thanks to outstanding efforts by Luke Johanns (1:46.02) and Nick Strader (1:48.14). Biernat out-touched the field in the 50 free, finishing in 1:59.76 to give him his second win of the day.
Moss earned his second win of the day in 100 fly. He turned in a time of 52.75. XU then dominated the 100 free, taking the top three spots. Chad Thompson (47.33), Carter Clark (48.24) and Kiernan McGeehan (50.47) finished first through third, respectively.
Suriano (52.83) won the 100 back, then Xavier swept the top three spots in the 500 free. Arthur Smith (4:49.07), Eric Dirvin (4:55.57) and Robert Van Kirk (4:59.58) were the top three finishers in order.
Johanns, Clark, Moss and Suriana turned in a time of 1:24.09 to give Xavier a win in the final men's race of the night, the 200 free relay.
Heidi Turner (2:01.17) and Mackenna Rife (2:01.72) turned in second- and third-place showings in the women's 200 free. Maddie Day led the charge in the 50 free, winning in 25.17.
The 100 free was won by Carolyn Stewart, who turned in a time of 55.16. The women's 200 free relay closed the meet with a victory. Claire Brolsma, Abbi Walsh, Carly Davis and Maddie Day combined to turn in a time of 1:40.69.
Xavier will next swim against crosstown-rival Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.
