BUFFALO, N.Y. -Michael Zennedjian wins the men's Atlantic 10 Swimming Championship Most Outstanding Performer while head coach Brent MacDonald earned men's Coach of the Year as voted on by the league coaches. For the second consecutive year, senior Zennedjian wins gold in the 200 yard butterfly. Carolyn Stewart won bronze in the 200 yard backstroke and the men's 400 yard freestyle relay earned bronze.

The men, who were picked in the preseason coaches' poll to finish fifth, ended in third place with 522 points behind Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure. The women finished eighth with 245 points.

Zennedjian won his fourth gold of the meet when he put together a 1:48.85 200 yard butterfly. Zennedjian ends his Xavier swimming career as the program's most decorated swimmer. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich., native has won 11 individuals medals and five relay medals in his four years of competition in the Atlantic 10 Championships. He has won seven individual gold medals and two relays gold medals.

Freshman Carolyn Stewart won her second bronze of the meet, this time in the 200 yard backstroke. Stewart came in with a time of 2:00.83. Her finish helped the women move up the leader board to as high as fifth.

The medal count for the Musketeers at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships were: four gold and six bronze.

The men's 400 freestyle relay team of Pablo Morejon, Zennedjian, Sam Conchuratt and Armando Moss finished in a time of 3:01.78 to win the bronze medal.


 

 

Moss finished third in the consolation final of the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.26. Senior Chadeau Wilson won the 200 yard breaststroke consolation final, touching the wall at 2:21.70. Conchuratt also was victorious in the 200 yard butterfly consolation final with a time of 1:51.18.

In the morning preliminaries, Thompson won his heat of the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.51. Joseph O'Hara came in fourth in his heat with a time of 1:49.99. In the 100 yard freestyle, Morejon came in third of his heat with a time of 45.91 while Moss touched fourth in his heat with a time of 45.97. Michael Gordon finished third in his heat of the 200 yard breaststroke with time of 2:06.50, while Rick Stewart also came in third in his heat with a time of 2:05.48. Wilson came in sixth in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.30. In the preliminaries of the 200 yard butterfly, Zennedjian came in second of his heat posting a time of 1:51.77 while Conchuratt and Landon Graham finished third in their respective heats with times of 1:53.69 and 1:53.81.

Samantha Sloand came in second in her preliminary heat of the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.05 while Stewart came in third in her heat with a time of 2:02.55. In the 100 yard freestyle, Anne Frigo came in second in her heat with a time of 52.11 while Davis came in fourth with a time of 54.77. Natalie Hyde finished second with a time of 2:21.97 in her heat of the 200 yard breaststroke. In the heat of the 1,650 yard freestyle Courtney Cox came in second with at time of 17:24.95.
