Women's 200-Yard Medlay Relay Team Break School Record and Take Bronze on Day One of A-10s

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams kicked off the 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship Wednesday night at the Flickinger Aquatics Center at Erie Community College. Two relay events were on deck for the evening, the men's and women's 200 yard medley relay and the men's and women's 800 freestyle relay. The women's 200 yard medley team set a school record en route to a bronze medal.

After the first day of competition the men sit in sixth place with 58 points, while the women are also in sixth with 46 points.

The women's 200 yard medley relay team started the night off in record-setting fashion. Freshman Carolyn Stewart swam her backstroke leg in 26.19 seconds followed by Madison Day who touched in 29.38 in the breaststroke section. Junior Courtney Shields next entered the water and swam the butterfly in 24.15 followed by classmate Anne Frigo who finished her split at 23.34. The Musketeers' 1:43.06 team broke a school record by over a second and earned them the bronze medal.

For the men, junior David Maxwell, senior Chadeau Wilson, junior Samuel Conchuratt and sophomore Armando Moss teamed together in the 200 yard medley relay and finished in 1:31.31 for fifth place. The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of senior Michael Zennedjian, freshmen Eric Dirvin and Will Oswald and sophomore Chad Thompson earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 6:42.43.
