GENEVA, Ohio - The Xavier women's 200 medley relay team opened the Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a bronze medal to set the tone for a successful first day of competition. At the completion of day one, the women's team sits in sixth place out of 11 teams and the men's squad trails only St. Bonaventure.

Carolyn Stewart, Maddie Day, Courtney Shields and Anne Frigo comprised the bronze medal winning 200 medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:43.07, just one one-hundredth of a second from the team record.

The men's team of David Maxwell, Rick Stewart, Sam Conchuratt and Luke Johanns, followed with a silver medal of its own in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:30.41.

Molly Kroeger, Jacquelyn Misanik, Mackenna Rife and Randi Windemuller teamed in the women's 800 free relay to finish in 7:34.60, fast enough for an eighth-place showing.

Xavier saved its best performance of the night for the final race, the men's 800 free relay. Sam Conchuratt led with a blistering time of 1:38.47, breaking the school record for the 200 free in the process. Conchuratt's time was five one-hundredths better than Nathan Green's record set in 2010. Eric Dirvin, Chad Thompson and Will Oswald closed out Xavier's silver-medal effort with a time of 6:36.04, besting the previous record by over 4.5 seconds.

The A-10 Championships resume with preliminary heats Thursday morning, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Event finals will be held Thursday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
