CINCINNATI - Xavier's women's swimming team dropped its final regular-season meet of the year to Ohio, 127-74, at the O'Conner Sports Complex on XU's campus. With just two weeks until the BIG EAST Championships, the Musketeers used the meet to begin preparations for their first championship in the new league.
Heidi Turner provided Xavier with its lone victory of the night, winning the 150 fly (1:36.51) by nearly two seconds. Lynn Brotherton (1:38.41) beat out Ohio's top swimmer in the event by two tenths of a second.
Xavier also performed well in the 200 medley relay, with Carolyn Stewart, Maddie Day, Ashley Whiteley and Claire Brolsma combining for a second-place finish (1:51.40). Stewart added another runner-up finish in the 100 IM (1:01.02).
Brolsma, Day, Kroeger and Stewart closed the meet with another runner-up finish for the Musketeers in the 200 free relay. The quartet touched less the 0.2-seconds behind Ohio's "A" squad, posting a time of 1:39.42.
Xavier will begin tapering for the BIG EAST Swimming Championships set to be held in Gloucester, N.J., from Feb. 19-22. This will be the Musketeer's first swimming championship in the BIG EAST since joining the league on July 1, 2013.
