FAIRBORN, Ohio - Both Xavier men's and women's swimming teams narrowly fell to Wright State in a dual meet. The women dropped the decision 116-107, while the men lost, 115-90.
The distance swimmers started the meet off well for the Musketeers. Mackenna Rife (10:49.51) and Emily Wagner (10:50.75) took the top two spots in the 1000 free and Nick Strader (9:45.65) and Nick Foster (9:49.19) followed suit in the men's event.
Molly Kroeger (1:55.45) and Eric Dirvin (1:45.78) kept the early momentum rolling for XU with wins in the women's and men's 200 free. Sprinters Maddie Day (25.39) and Luke Johanns (21.84) then claimed the top spots in the 50 free.
The women earned another victory in the 100 back, with Carolyn Stewart winning the event with a time of 58.37. Rife then won her second event of the evening in a tight race in the women's 500 free, taking the top spot by just .08 seconds after touching in 5:16.17.
While Friday's meet was the last of the regular season for the men's team, the women's squad will be back in the pool on Friday, Feb. 7 when Ohio comes to Cincinnati.
