John Roof placed second in the 100-yard butterfly at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams faltered at Wright State Saturday morning in the their final outing before heading to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship to be held Feb. 17-20 in Buffalo, N.Y. The men fell to the Raiders, 149-72, while the women dropped a 147-57 decision to WSU.
For the women, senior Elaina Suba took gold in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.98 while junior Holly Hoover placed second in the same event with her time of 1:02.59. Suba teamed up with senior Martha Cutter-Wilson, junior Bethanie Griffin and freshman Courtney Shields to touch second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.39).
Junior Kari Peglar took second in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:56.68. Griffin also touched second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.71).
Junior Terence Mahon struck gold for the men in the 100-yard backstroke, touching with a time of 53.17 and junior Nathan Green also out-touched the competition in the 500-yard freestyle to take first (4:40.64). Junior John Roof placed second in the 100-yard butterfly for the Musketeers, turning in a time of 54.27).
The Musketeers will close out the 2009-10 season at the A-10 Championship which is being held at Erie Community College.
