Chad Thompson staked wins in the 200 back and 400 IM against IUPUI and Ball State Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS - After nearly two months between competitive races, the Xavier swim teams put together strong showings at IUPUI. Senior Sam Conchuratt was a part of three first-place finishes for the men's team, winning two individual events and one relay, and Chad Thompson picked up two wins in individual races. Freshman Mackenna Rife led the women's squad with first-, second- and third-place showings.
The two teams will be back in action Saturday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio with a meet at Cleveland State. Oakland University will also be swimming against the Musketeers and Vikings.
Carolyn Stewart, Madison Day, Courtney Shields and Anne Frigo opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, posting a time of 1:49.21. Freshman Mackenna Rife followed with a two-second victory in the 1000 Freestyle.
Stewart and Jacquelyn Misanik claimed third and fourth in the 100 Backstroke, while Frigo grabbed second in the 100 Free. In the 200 Back, Misanik out-touched Stewart as the two Musketeers took second and third, respectively.
Rife followed with a second-place showing in the 500 Free and a fourth-place effort in the 400 IM. Claire Brolsma, Frigo, Shields and Randi Windemuller closed out Xavier's evening with third in the 200 Free Relay.
The Musketeers didn't fare well in the team standings, losing to Ball State (94-37), IUPUI (65-60) and Marshall (65-50).
After nearly 10 minutes of racing, the 1000 Free was decided by just six-hundredths of a second. Alex Huff was out-touched by IUPUI's Daniel Saunders. David Gordon also had a good showing in the race, finishing just behind Saunders and Huff for a third place finish.
Eric Dirvin took first in the 200 Free with a time of 1:44.16. In the 100 Breaststroke, Stewart and Michael Gordon finished second and third, respectively. Conchuratt gave Xavier its second win of the night with a time of 1:55.19 in the 200 Butterfly. XU also received a third-place showing from Landon Graham in the event.
After anchoring the second-place medley relay team earlier in the evening, Johanns swam to a first-place finish in the 50 Free. Pablo Morejon added a third-place finish in the 50 Free. Johanns continued his strong effort on the evening with another second in the 100 Free.
The one-two punch of Chad Thompson and Maxwell swept the top two spots in the 200 Back. Thompson posted a time of 1:54.28 and Maxwell was close behind at 1:55.33. Kiernan McGeehan blew away the field in the 500 Free, winning by nearly eight seconds with a time of 4:41.76.
Conchuratt's second win came in the 100 Fly, while Thompson took the 400 IM. The men's 200 Free Relay team of Conchuratt, Morejon, Maxwell and Johanns swam to a two-second victory with a time of 1:24.78 to end Xavier's evening.
As a squad, the men's team picked up wins over both IUPUI (85-46) and Ball State (73-58).
