After graduating from Xavier in 2004, former Musketeer swimmer John Janszen is in his second year as as assistant coach. Janszen will aid head coach George Rathman's staff mainly with the distance and sprint groups, while being and integral part of the recruiting process.

"As a former student-athlete at Xavier, John understands the mission of the university and the role that athletics plays in a student's life," said Rathman. "John had a very successful career at Xavier and we are looking forward to having him start his collegiate coaching career with his alma mater."

Janszen came to Xavier after serving as the head swim coach for the Gamble-Nippert YMCA. His duties there included preparing year-round swimming and strength programs for all age groups, while planning and scheduling team trips throughout the season.

Prior to his stint at the Gamble-Nippert YMCA, Janszen was the head swim coach at Wyoming High School. While at WHS, he led the women's team to the 2005 Cincinnati Hills League championship and second-place finishes at the sectional and district meets. For his efforts, he was named the CHL Women's Coach of the Year.

While a student-athlete at Xavier, Janszen was named the 2000 and 2001 MVP of the men's swim team. He was also named the Most Improved Student-Athlete in the 2003-04 season. He earned the Scholar Athlete Award for four semesters and was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2001. Janszen was a five-time finalist at the A-10 Championships and still is part of the school-record breaking 400 Medley Relay team.
