Xavier Cheerleading Tryout Requirements Fall 2015

Women will be asked to perform:

  • Display of spirit, enthusiasm, smiles, loud voices and sharp motions.
  • Sideline Chants (to be taught at clinics)
  • Dance (to be taught at clinics)
  • Successfully complete a fitness test, including the following:
    • A timed, one-mile run
    • Timed push-ups and sit-ups
  • Tumbling, with correct form:
    • standing back handspring (required)
    • standing back tuck (preferred)
    • standing back handspring back tuck
    • round-off back handspring (required)
    • round-off back handspring series (preferred)
    • round-off back handspring back tuck
    • round-off back tuck
    • elite tumbling pass
  • Stunting with correct form: 
    • Co-Ed:
      • Stunt #1 Chair
      • Stunt #2 Hands (Toss, Chair-to or Walk-In)
      • Stunt #3 Optional (Chair/Hands, Shoulder Stand, Extension, Liberty, Heel Stretch, Torch, Arabesque, Scale, Scorpion)
    • Group:
      • Stunt #1 Co-Ed Chair
      • Stunt #2 Quick toss Pump-&-Go
      • Stunt #3 Optional one-legged Stunt (Liberty, Torch, Arabesque, Scale, Scorpion)

 

Men will be asked to perform:

  • Display of spirit, enthusiasm, smiles, loud voices and sharp motions          
  • Sideline chant motions (to be taught at tryouts)
  • Fight Song (to be taught at tryouts)
  • Tumbling with correct form preferred but not required
  • Successfully complete a fitness test, including the following:
    • A timed, one-mile run
    • Timed push-ups and sit-ups
  • Stunting with correct form: 
    • Co-Ed:
      • Stunt #1 Chair
      • Stunt #2 Hands (Toss, Chair-to or Walk-In)
      • Stunt #3 Optional (Chair/Hands, Shoulder Stand, Extension, Liberty, Heel Stretch, Torch, Arabesque, Scale, Scorpion) OR back-spot a group stunt

 Important Information:

  • Please let the coaches know if you are able to successfully perform more than one position in stunts (example: top and base). You may be asked to do a different position throughout the year other than the one you tried out for. Tryouts are to assess skills and future potential.
  • Coaches reserve the right to make changes for any reason if necessary.
  • Selected Xavier University Cheerleader cheer for both Men's and Women's Basketball along with several Volleyball and Soccer games.
  • Attire: Women - form fitting clothing, (no midriff showing) hair half up with bow and game ready make up. Men - Shorts and T-Shirt (not too baggy). Xavier colors or apparel only.
  • Anyone trying out must bring an official, printed copy of both their Fall 2014 schedule and their current GPA for the coaches to review and maintain for their records.
