Christopher Talks Xavier, Fall Sports And BIG EAST

Tom Eiser, Xavier University Associate Athletic Director for Communications, is in his 29th year directing the communications, media relations, broadcast production, web site, publicity, publications, record-keeping and research for his alma mater's 18 NCAA Division I sports. In addition to his Xavier duties, Eiser chairs CoSIDA's I-AAA University Division Management Advisory Committee, serves on the CoSIDA Strategic Branding Committee, the BIG EAST Conference Academic Affairs Committee and the BIG EAST Conference Marketing Team.

Eiser received an award at the 2010 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Convention in San Francisco for his 25 years of professional contributions to the sports information field. Eiser began his professional career in sports information as Assistant SID in the 1985-86 school year at the University of Detroit. He was a student assistant SID at Xavier as an undergraduate from 1980-84, serving four years as the school's first-ever women's basketball SID.

In May of 2010 Xavier University honored Eiser with a 25-year service award, commemorating his 24 years as a full-time XU athletic department employee and his year as the New Director in 1984-85 at NPR affiliate WVXU-FM.

A big part of the focus of Eiser's attention currently is the nationally-ranked men's basketball program. In fact, he has worked all but two of Xavier's 800+ regular season and postseason men's basketball games since he was hired full-time in 1986. He's enjoyed promoting XU basketball during 21 NCAA tournaments in his first 28 years, while assisting the host sites of numerous men's and women's basketball tournaments, including several Final Fours. Eiser's 2010-11 men's basketball guide was voted "Best in the Nation" by CoSIDA and his 2012-13 men's basketball guide was voted "Second-Best in the Nation" by CoSIDA.

In addition to his other responsibilities, Eiser has previously seved as the administrator for the men's and women's golf programs and has also been the administrator for the women's soccer program. He started the women's golf program and hired its first coach in 1992. He has served on the golf and soccer committees for the Atlantic 10 Conference, including serving as chair of both. Eiser has been the curator and director of the P. Douglas O'Keefe Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame on the Cintas Center concourse since its inception in 2005 and has served on the HOF selection committee since 1986.

Eiser's extensive media background started outside media relations. He worked as a news and sports reporter at WVXU-FM, a National Public Radio affiliate, from 1980-85. His last two years he served as Sports Director and then News Director in addition to hosting the local portion of NPR's "Morning Edition." He received several awards from the Society of Professional Journalist for his radio news reporting. He also has done freelance reporting for a variety of media, including AP, NPR and Piccadilly Radio (Manchester, England).

Eiser is a 1984 graduate of Xavier University with a bachelor's degree in English, while also completing a summer program in British Media Studies at the University of Manchester. Eiser graduated with a master's degree in educational administration from Xavier in 2011. In addition, he has continued his education with other graduate course work in modern languages with an emphasis on Spanish. A soccer enthusiast and an avid traveler who has seen 13 countries so far, it's no surprise that he jumped at the chance to be a media specialist at the 2003 Women's World Cup and the 1994 Men's World Cup.

Eiser, 52, is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, the United States Basketball Writers Association and the Public Relations Society of America.
