Andy MacWilliams was named the GoXavier.com Xavier Insider in the fall of 2013. He serves as host of the monthly Ask the AD feature and contributes feature articles posted to GoXavier.com. MacWilliams, a 64-year-old native of Albany, N.Y., is a product of Williams College and is among the long list of broadcasters and journalists from Syracuse University. MacWilliams has an impressive broadcasting resume that began with pro hockey in the 70s: Syracuse Blazers of the EHL (1972-73), Jacksonville Barons of the AHL (1973-74), the Syracuse Eagles of the AHL (1974-75), the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA (1975-78), the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL (1978-80) and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL (1994-96). For his many contributions to hockey in the tri-state area, he has been elected to the Cincinnati Hockey Hall of Fame. In addition to pro hockey in Cincinnati, MacWilliams spent time on the broadcasts for the two other pro teams in town, including as a Bengals football analyst on WLW Radio (1982-83) and a Reds baseball announcer on WLW Radio (1987) in addition to several seasons of Reds Spring Training games. MacWilliams, the sports director at 700 WLW from 1980-97, jumped into the collegiate sports world as the play-by-play voice of University of Cincinnati football and basketball from 1980-82. MacWilliams began his association with Xavier men's basketball in 1983, doing the TV play-by-play on WXIX-TV 19 from 1983-1987. MacWilliams broadcast Xavier Basketball on WLW radio from 1984-1997. Since then he has been a writer for X-Press (a former Xavier Basketball Weekly from 1997-2001) and a columnist for the Musketeermadness web site from 2001-13. MacWilliams has a full-time position as a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley. MacWilliams and his wife, Janet, have been married 37 years. He proudly boasts about his three children: "Bryan (36) is a 2000 Xavier grad and an Emergency Room Doctor at a hospital in Seattle, our daughter Abagail (33) is the manager of Lulu Lemon Store in Hyde Park and Sean (30) is a cost accountant at Bristol Myers Squibb in West Chester. I am a proud long-time resident of Western Hills and a proud long-time Xavier fan."
