CINCINNATI - Lauren E. Clary ('05), David M. West ('03), and former coach George E. "Skip" Prosser were inducted into Xavier's Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon in the Duff Banquet Center at Cintas Center.
Clary, a former tennis standout, was introduced by current Director of Tennis Operations and former Head Coach Jim Brockhoff. Clary starred on the tennis courts and in the classroom during her tenure at Xavier University. She finished her career with 135 victories in singles and 105 wins in doubles play, giving her 218 wins during her stellar four-year career. As a senior, Clary was honored with the 2005 NCAA Sportsmanship Award. She was an Academic All-American and a three-time selection as Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year.
A former basketball great and 2002-03 Associated Press, United States Basketball Writers Association, and Basketball Times National Player of the Year, David West was introduce by his brother Dwayne. West is Xavier's second all-time leading scorer with 2,132 career points and third all-time leading rebounder with 1,308 career boards. West is the first player in Xavier's history to have his jersey retired while still active.
The late George E. "Skip" Prosser was introduced by former Xavier coach and longtime friend Pete Gillen. Prosser was known as much for his kind, compassionate, and caring personality as he was for his coaching ability. He spent a total of 15 seasons on the bench for Xavier, including his eight years as an assistant. In his seven years at the helm of the Musketeers, Prosser amassed 148 victories. Xavier teams led by Prosser appeared in the post-season six times, four in the NCAA tournament and two in the NIT.
Xavier Hall of Fame member Joe Sunderman ('79) served as the emcee of the event, which was attended by fellow Hall-of-Famers, family and friends of the inductees, and university administrators. The ceremony was held prior to the Skip Prosser Classic, which is played annually between Xavier and Wake Forest in honor of the late coach.
