CINCINNATI - Over the past few weeks Xavier Student Athletes organized a canned food drive in effort to give back to the Greater Cincinnati community before the holiday season. All of Xavier athletic teams were involved and a tremendous number of cans were donated in just a few short weeks. Representatives on each team from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) collected food from their respective team members and a prize was awarded to the team who could collect the most.
St. Vincent de Paul has been helping those in need around Cincinnati for over 140 years. They are motivated by a sense of compassion for those struggling with poverty, loneliness, illness, family problems, and many other difficulties. Throughout the year, St. Vincent de Paul's Cincinnati Chapter conducts a number of special drives to collect and distribute basic necessities like food, clothing and other items to help those in need during the holiday season.
Senior Track & Field Athlete and SAAC's Community Service Chair, Adrija Taraska, helped coordinate the food drive. "In total we collected nearly a thousand canned and non-perishable goods for St. Vincent de Paul which is absolutely fantastic! Given the short amount of time we had, the number of donations completely surpassed my expectations. I am extremely happy with the participation from our teams and I cannot thank them enough!"
