Xavier Athletics Marketing Honored By NACMA
June 15, 2007 CINCINNATI - The Xavier Athletics Marketing Department was honored at the 2007 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrations (NACMA) Convention for the 2006-07 year. The awards were presented during NACMA's 16th annual Convention in Orlando, Fla., on June 7. In Group II, Xavier earned silver for single-day attendance promotion for men's basketball. XU was given the honor for its promotion of "Turn Back the Clock Night", which was celebrated at the Men's Basketball game versus Detroit-Mercy on December 5. The team wore throwback uniforms that featured elements from different jerseys the team has worn throughout its history, and James Posey bobbleheads were given to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. The entire night was tied in with the season long theme of "Tradition of Excellence." Throughout the game, highlights from past seasons and former Xavier logos were present on the videoboard, and music from the 70's & 80's was played as part of the night's theme. The game-worn jerseys were later auctioned off at www.goxavier.com to benefit the All for One Club. Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards honor outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. A total of 922 entries were received for the 2006-07 school year. NACMA, which is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operation standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators. In its 42nd year, NACMA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,100 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. |
