CINCINNATI - Xavier Athletics has increased its presence on social media through the creation of The BarrackX, the Musketeers' new social media command center located on the fifth-floor concourse in Cintas Center that launched in October.
"We're excited about The BarrackX and how it provides a platform to engage our fans and share the Xavier story," said Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Brian Hicks. "Our social media efforts continue to evolve and The BarrackX provides a full-time presence to monitor the conversation via social outlets and grow the Xavier Athletics brand organically.
The purpose of The BarrackX is to increase the fan experience with Xavier's athletics programs. From infographics to photo galleries to in-game statistics, Xavier is providing its fans with a deeper level of engagement and interaction.
Guest tweeters in The BarrackX have taken over XU's official twitter account, @XUAthletics, allowing Xavier fans to connect with a variety of influential members of the community. FOX Sports Ohio Girl Kristine took over the account during the Musketeers' men's basketball victory against Marquette as part of FOX Sports Ohio's Xavier Day, and GoXavier.com Xavier Insider Andy MacWilliams will take over the twitter account for the men's basketball game against Providence on Feb. 8.
"Importantly, The BarrackX is almost entirely staffed by Xavier students," continued Hicks. "We believe in providing opportunities to our students that will prepare them for a career in athletics and communications."
The team of student interns that staff The BarrackX coordinate with the marketing and athletic communications departments to create interesting and engaging content for Xavier's social media channels.
