Xavier men’s and women’s golf teams compete and practice at one of the finest courses and facilities in the country, Maketewah Country Club and the Francis Xavier Homan Golf Center at Maketewah Country Club.
The 10,000 square foot facility features a 3,000 square foot indoor putting and chipping green, Xavier’s golf offices, Xavier’s men’s and women’s locker rooms, an executive board room, a Maketewah member lounge, and four heated hitting bays which open onto a best-in-region short game practice area.
Maketewah Country Club partnered with Xavier for the project and provided the land.
“This elevates both programs nationally, both in terms of player development and recruiting,” XU director of golf and men’s coach Doug Steiner said. “Both teams get a chance to practice on a world-class golf course and we have the ability to practice year-round no matter the weather, thanks to this state-of-the art practice facility. The partnership between Xavier, the golf programs and an elite private club like Maketewah Country Club make this project even more unique and exciting.”
As the first regional Cobra-Puma fitting center, Maketewah will offer club fitting and product demos. Bob Philion, the president of Cobra-Puma, played on Xavier’s men’s team from 1989 – 1993.
For more than 100 years, Maketewah Country Club has been an icon of the Cincinnati golf scene. The club’s Thomas Bendelow and Donald Ross designed course is home to the longest running US Open local qualifier in the country and will boast the only indoor practice facility at a private club in the region. Also the home of the Xavier University men’s and women’s golf teams, Maketewah is a place where families and individuals can play through life. In addition to golf, the club offers tennis, swimming facilities, a bowling alley and first-class restaurant. Less than 10 minutes from downtown, Maketewah is located at 5401 Reading Road Cincinnati, Ohio, 45237. Visit www.Maketewah.com for more information.
